Halton Borough Council is warning consumers of scam bank text messages currently circulating.
Consumers have reported to Trading Standards that they are receiving calls claiming to be from banks (such as RBS), when the consumer hangs up, they subsequently receive text messages claiming to be from the bank.
The text message thanks the recipient for registering with digital banking (see below) and asks the recipient to contact them, if they don’t remember doing this (you won’t remember doing this because its part of the scam).
Halton Borough Council’s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: “These sorts of calls and text messages are a way of stealing your personal details and bank details.
“If you have any concerns about your accounts, then please contact your bank through your normal means (and not via any email links, attachments or telephone numbers in the text messages or given to you over the phone).”
