Appeal for information and footage following hit-and-run collision in Widnes

Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a hit-and-run collision in Widnes.

Police were informed of the collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Hale Road, opposite the junction with Berry Road, shortly before 1pm on Saturday 27 March.

Officers swiftly attended the scene and on arrival they discovered that a 13-year-old girl from Widnes had sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.

She was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in an ambulance after being assessed by paramedics.

Her parents were at the scene after being informed of the incident.

The teenager remains in hospital receiving treatment.

The dark grey Mercedes involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

Officers investigating the collision subsequently located a car matching the saloon car’s description in the Hunt’s Cross area of Liverpool and a 33-year-old man from Widnes has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs in relation to the incident.

A 32-year-old woman from Prescot in Knowsley, Merseyside, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The pair are currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Detective Inspector Nick Henderson said: “I would like to thank all the members of the public who have given us information and footage in relation to the serious collision so far.

“It is much appreciated and has helped us get to a stage whereby we believe that we have located the vehicle involved in the collision and arrested two people in relation to it.

“However, we believe that there may be more members of the public with information and dashcam footage to aid our investigation.

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation and urge anyone else who thinks they may have relevant information or footage, no matter how small, to get in touch.”

Anyone with information or dashcam footage that may help the investigation is asked to call Cheshire Constabulary on 101, quoting IML 948597, or give the details via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/ro/report.

Hale Road was closed in both directions between Liverpool Road and Dundalk Road following the collision.

The road closure has now been lifted.
