What to do in the New Year?

With all the Christmas festivities coming to an end, the month of January can often be very dull and boring, there’s no denying that, but there’s no need to give in as defeat!

It’s a proven fact that spending time with the family doing activities and being outdoors is a great way to boost happiness levels. What better way to get rid of those January blues than to get out and about with your loved ones?

Here are some ideas for great family days out in Widnes and surrounding areas…

Widnes super bowl at The Hive

A bit of healthy competition between the family is a great way to get everyone up and on their toes. Its time me to put the game controller down and pick the bowling ball up, this one is sure to engage the kids and provide a good time for all.3746816_3b82dfa7

Catalyst Science Discovery Centre

This interactive science centre and museum is all about chemistry and the history of the chemical industry. It’s all about making science more interesting and engaging for children, it might even teach the adults a thing or two as well! The museum also holds weekend workshops and interactive shows for all the family, called ‘Egyptian science ‘and ‘Marvellous Materials’.1114709

Norton Priory Museum and Gardens

Norton priory is a historic site in Runcorn full of old archaeological ruins and picturesque gardens. it only opened last summer but is a great place to go and explore. Currently closed for the winter months, it is due to open again on march 1st.

National Museums Liverpool

Liverpool offers a whole host of museums which are both educational and fun. There’s The International Slavery Museum, the Museum of Liverpool, The Walker Art Gallery, The World Museum and the Merseyside Maritime museums all of which are free of cost. With so many to choose from you you’ll never be bored.

Gullivers World

Gulliver’s World is just under a half an hour drive away from Widnes, located in Warrington and is the nearest theme park. The day out is designed for families with the rides all aimed at children between the ages of 3-13, so don’t expect anything too scary and daunting, just enjoy!JS62298521

The beach

There are various beaches in driving distance from Widnes for a fun family day out. There’s Wallasey beach which is the closest at 14 miles away, as well as Formby and Ainsdale which are both about 20 miles. Or if you fancy something a bit further from home why not travel into north wales where you have Llandudno beach. Don’t forget your picnic and bucket and spades!
